The Maha Kumbh Mela 2021
Hundreds of millions of people have for thousands of years believed that a dip in the holy Ganges can bring salvation to the soul is true, suggests that awesome power is indeed present at the Kumbha Mela sites.
Ancient Hindu Texts - The Puranas, suggest that at the beginning of time, gods and demons conjointly churned the milky ocean, to gather various divine treasures, including a pot (Kumbh) containing Amrit (nectar of immortality), then began a battle for its possession. For 12 days and 12 nights (equivalent to 12 human years), they fought to gain possession of this potion. Four drops of nectar or potion of immortality were supposed to have fallen to earth at the sites of the Kumbh Mela, and at particular astrological periods, the four sites are believed to function as portals into immortality and everlasting union with God. There are 12 important dates, and bathing on these dates in the pious Ganges is indeed an opportunity of immeasurable significance.
In 2010, over 40 million people bathed in the Holy Ganges in Haridwar. A deep sense of spiritual calm can be felt even amidst the chaos that surrounds you at the Kumbh Mela. It's a gathering of faith, hope and pursuit for salvation from suffering and pain.
The Maha Kumbh Mela has commenced from 14 January 2021 in Haridwar.
The Festival will be held for 104 Days and culminate on 27 April 2021.
